Edwin Brown Education Center seventh grader Trenton Donnelly recently won the first place prize for the Eagle Watch Art Contest put on by Oregon State Parks each year.

Now in its third year, the contest seeks various artwork styles of birds of prey from students in grades fourth through twelfth. Winners are chosen on creativity and originality.

Trenton’s win was announced at the “Eagle Watch” event held in Culver, Oregon from Feb. 25-26, 2017. The celebration honors eagles and other raptors that live in the Lake Billy Chinook area. His artwork was on display during the two-day bird of prey event and he was awarded a wooden box art kit with markers, paints and pastels.

Trenton said he enjoyed putting together his paper mosaic artwork, which took the form of a bald eagle, and that the contest made him think more about eagles and ways to help save them.
